ＥＬ表示装置

【課題】ＥＬ表示装置の高画質表示を実現すること。
【解決手段】表示画面には、ＥＬ素子１５を有する画素がマトリックス状に配置されている。各画素１６において、ＥＬ素子１５の電流が流れる経路を構成する配線に、ＥＬ素子に電流を流す第１の電圧Ｖｋ、またはＥＬ素子に流す電流を遮断する第２の電圧Ｖｄｄを印加するオンオフ回路６３１が形成されている。オンオフ手段を制御することにより、１フレーム期間にＥＬ素子１５が発光する期間を制御する。

【特許請求の範囲】
【請求項１】
ＥＬ素子を有する画素がマトリックス状に配置された表示画面を有するＥＬ表示装置であって、
前記画素において、前記ＥＬ素子の電流が流れる経路を構成する配線に、前記ＥＬ素子に電流を流す第１の電圧、または前記ＥＬ素子に流す電流を遮断する第２の電圧を印加するオンオフ手段と、
前記オンオフ手段を制御することにより、１フレーム期間に同期して前記ＥＬ素子が発光する期間を発生させることを特徴とするＥＬ表示装置。
【請求項２】
前記第１の電圧と前記第２の電圧のうち、一方の電圧はアノード電圧またはカソード電圧であることを特徴とする請求項１記載のＥＬ表示装置。
【請求項３】
前記オンオフ手段は、ＰチャンネルトランジスタとＮチャンネルトランジスタで構成されていることを特徴とする請求項１記載のＥＬ表示装置。
【請求項４】
前記画素に形成された、前記ＥＬ素子に電流を供給する駆動用トランジスタを具備し、
前記駆動用トランジスタは、Ｐチャンネルトランジスタであることを特徴とする請求項１記載のＥＬ表示装置。
【請求項５】
画像信号を印加するソースドライバ回路と、
前記画素に形成された、前記ＥＬ素子に電流を供給する駆動用トランジスタと、
前記画素に形成された、前記画像信号を前記駆動用トランジスタに印加する経路を発生するスイッチ用トランジスタとを具備し、
前記駆動用トランジスタと前記スイッチ用トランジスタは、同一チャンネル極性のトランジスタであることを特徴とする請求項１記載のＥＬ表示装置。
【請求項６】
前記オンオフ手段のオンオフ制御は、１水平走査期間単位で制御されることを特徴とする請求項１記載のＥＬ表示装置。
【請求項７】
前記画素にプログラム電流を供給するソースドライバ回路と、
前記ソースドライバ回路の各出力段に形成された、複数の単位トランジスタを含むトランジスタ群とを具備していることを特徴とする請求項１記載のＥＬ表示装置。
【請求項８】
画像信号を印加するソースドライバ回路と、
前記ソースドライバ回路の出力端子と前記画素が接続されたソース信号線間に配置されたスイッチ回路とを更に具備し、
前記スイッチ回路は、前記ソースドライバ回路が出力する画像信号を、選択された前記ソース信号線に印加することを特徴とする請求項１記載のＥＬ表示装置。
【請求項９】
前記オンオフ手段を制御することにより、前記表示画面の非表示領域と表示領域との割合を変化させることにより、前記表示画面の明るさを変化または制御することを特徴とする請求項１記載のＥＬ表示装置。
【請求項１０】
外光の明るさを検出する手段をさらに具備することを特徴とする請求項１記載のＥＬ表示装置。
