液晶表示装置

【課題】ホールド型表示装置において、動画像の画質を向上し、かつ、コントラスト比を向上することを課題とする。
【解決手段】バックライトと表示パネルを有する表示装置において、バックライトを複数の単位領域に分割し、表示パネルは、単位領域の数よりも多い数の画素を有し、黒表示となる単位領域部分は非発光状態としつつ、装置に入力される画像データのフレームレートを変換して表示を行い、さらに、バックライトの駆動周波数を表示に合わせて変換する。

【特許請求の範囲】
【請求項１】
バックライトと、表示パネルと、を有し、
前記バックライトは、複数の単位領域を有し、
前記表示パネルは、前記複数の単位領域の数よりも多い数の画素を有する液晶表示装置であって、
前記複数の単位領域において個別に発光状態を制御する機能と、
前記表示パネルに表示される画像の表示周期よりも長い周期または短い周期で前記発光状態を制御する機能と、を有することを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
【請求項２】
請求項１において、
前記複数の単位領域のそれぞれにおける明るさの設定段階が４段階以上であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
